FC Frankfurt (zuvor Viktoria bzw. Vorwärts):
First impressions count, and even before entered the Elgora Stadium in Oranienburg, one feels that this will be an enjoyable day at the football. There is nothing worse than a grumpy old man snatching at your money and not really caring if you were there to support the team that is paying his wage. The total opposite occurs here in this small town of 42,000. A family atmosphere is present, from the smiling and happy ticket/program sellers to the bar and food staff, and even the gentleman selling the pins, scarfs and footballs that seems to be at most of the Brandenburg-Liga games I go to, everyone seem to enjoy being there, and being amongst familiar faces. The Tus 1896 Sachsenhausen fans really get behind their team in great numbers and most weeks when at home have the highest attendance in the league. And one can see why they would enjoy coming to the stadium, when they have a nice, small and modern stadium, with plenty of undercover seats and large areas for the children to play.
Heading into the 11th round of the 2012/13 season, Sachsenhausen had yet to lose a single game, only dropping points in a 0:0 draw to SV Germania 90 Schöneiche last round. A 9 point lead at the top of the table after only 10 rounds over FC Strausberg was just rewards for their fantastic start to the season. Their opponents today, the newly formed 1.FC Frankfurt, was at the other end of the table in 14th place with just 2 wins and 3 draws to their name. One would assume that today’s match wouldn’t just be a win for the home team, but by how much!
From the opening kickoff, it was obvious to the 245 paying spectators, just who the superior team was. This 1.FC Frankfurt wasn’t the same team that pushed Babelsberg (perhaps another link to the article?) all the way in extra time in last years Pokal game. Frankfurt looked hopelessly lost as they tried to repel wave after wave of Sachsenhausen attacks. With almost all the possession, and most of the territory, it was surprising that it took 29 minutes for the home team to break through. Out of nothing, Todor Samardzic fired a thunderbolt of a shot from 25 metres out from the Frankfurt goal straight past the defenders and goalkeeper into the right hand side of the net. Such was the ferocity of the shot, Matthias Kreutzer, in goals for Frankfurt, did well to make any effort to save it, but to no avail. The home fans went up in raptures while the home team celebrated a well deserved lead on the pitch.
It was not in the least surprising when, just 2 and half minutes later, the lead was doubled. A high floating corner kick from Felix Bieder to the back post went unchecked where Martin Pilz rose above everyone else to put the ball quite easily into the back of the net, to his as much as everyone else’s surprise. It now looked as though the predicted rout would begin, and Sachsenhausen would pile on the goals. The last 15 minutes of the half went much like the first 30, with Sachsenhausen doing the majority of attacking, with Frankfurt making all to infrequent counter attacking raids, where unfortunately the last pass just couldn’t find the feet of the intended player. The half time whistle brought a welcome break to the visitors, while the home team probably wished they could have kept playing and pressing their advantage.
The halftime break also brought entertainment of a different kind, with the draw for the quarterfinals of the Brandenburg-Pokal being held in front of the main stand by the Fussball-Landesverband-Brandenburg officials. With the last teams drawn, the home fans got their wish and cheered loudly when TuS 1896 Sachsenhausen was drawn at home to play SV Babelsberg 03 on the 22nd December, a game Turus.net looks forward to visiting and reporting on. After the 2 goals in three minute spell offered by Sachsenhausen in the later part of the first half, plenty of goals seemed possible, if not probable in the second half.
Perhaps it was a big half time speech by Frieder Andrich, the trainer of 1.FC Frankfurt that motivated his players, or perhaps the home team thought they had the game won already, but the second half didn’t reward the spectators with any more goals on the scoreboard. It wasn’t a lack of attacking from either team, both teams certainly had plenty of good chances, but neither really looked like putting one past the keeper. A dubious refereeing decision in the 21st minute of the second half not to award a penalty inside the box to Samardzic who was clearly fouled, was one such chance. Straight away on the counter attack, within 20 seconds Enrico Below had a fine shot saved low and left by Bjarne Rogall in goals for Sachsenhausen.
A procession of corners for Sachsenhausen late in the second half, offered some hope of another goal. Certainly the home fans behind the goals were trying to will the ball into the back of the net, and with their constant pounding of the metal advertising boards behind the goal, must have had Matthias Kreutzer wishing he had brought ear plugs, however he stood strong and kept a clean sheet in the second half.
As the sun was setting behind the main stand, the referee blew the whistle for a well deserved victory for the boys from Sachsenhausen. Although the 2 goal difference was not a real indication of the dominance showed by the home team, it allowed them to extend their lead atop of the table to 10 points over Schöneiche who took over 2nd place with their 4-0 victory away to FV Preussen Eberswalde. Upon leaving the stadium, the singing and chanting of the home fans, who clearly love their team, could be heard 500 metres away. At the current pace, Sachsenhausen look quite assured of booking their place in the Oberliga Nord next season, where they could see their stadium very full when playing the big teams such as BFC Dynamo and FSV Fürstenwalde. The upcoming fixture against Babelsberg will be a good test for the future.
